‘Muntifarmers’ to compete in Urban Agriculture Technology contest

MUNTINLUPA CITY – Local farmers in Muntinlupa, known as “Muntifarmers,” are set to showcase their creativity and innovations in the upcoming Urban Agriculture Technology Competition organized by the city’s Department of Agriculture–Extension Services Office (DA-ESO).

The event aims to highlight the ingenuity and commitment of urban farmers in developing sustainable agricultural technologies despite the city’s highly urbanized setting.

City officials said the initiative reflects Muntinlupa’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food security while supporting urban farming communities through the use of appropriate technologies and sustainable farming practices.

The competition was officially launched during the Fresh Harvest Festival on Feb. 24 through both onsite and online activities. Final judging and the awarding of winners are tentatively scheduled during the Farmers’ Day celebration on Oct. 29, 2026.

The Farmers’ Day celebration will also coincide with the global observance of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, carrying the theme “Kababaihang Magsasaka, Aaning Masagana!”

Organizers said the contest is open to registered DA-ESO clients, with one participant representing each barangay in the city. Extension officers will nominate finalists by August 2026.

Participants are encouraged to present farmer-initiated innovations that are not heavily dependent on government or institutional support. Ready-made commercial systems will not qualify for the competition.

Contestants must also submit regular harvest monitoring reports, including photo documentation and production data, throughout the contest period.

During the Farmers’ Day event, finalists will present their urban agriculture technologies before a panel of judges and the public.

Cash prizes await the winners, including PHP15,000 for first place, PHP5,000 for second place, and PHP3,000 for third place, while other finalists will receive PHP2,000 as consolation prizes.

Interested participants may coordinate with their assigned extension officers or check the contest guidelines and registration details online.
