Cash Aid Rolled Out to Over 380,000 Farmers, Fishers in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Western Visayas has begun distributing financial assistance under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program across selected areas in the region.

According to Agriculturist I Renan Palomo, an initial batch of 450 qualified rice and corn farmers in Iloilo City are among the first recipients. Each beneficiary will receive PHP2,325 in unconditional cash aid aimed at helping offset rising fuel costs.

Palomo explained that since the assistance is not restricted, farmers are free to use the funds for their most urgent needs, including farm inputs and daily expenses.

The payout is also ongoing in nearby municipalities such as Cabatuan, Zarraga, and Leon, expanding support to more agricultural communities.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the program, noting its importance in sustaining their livelihoods. Catalina Juarez, a 65-year-old farmer, said the aid will help her prepare for the upcoming cropping season. Meanwhile, Jeannie Lyn Buena plans to use the funds to maintain their vegetable garden, while 72-year-old Julito Gunay intends to allocate the money for his medicines.

Across Western Visayas, the program is expected to benefit more than 380,400 farmers and fishers.
