
La Trinidad — The Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council (PAFC) of Benguet received national recognition during the 11th National Agriculture and Fisheries Volunteers’ Day celebration for its exemplary contributions to the agriculture sector.
PAFC Benguet was named second Outstanding PAFC among 82 provinces and 33 highly urbanized cities. Its chairperson, Gerson Domoguen, also earned third place in the Outstanding PAFC Chairperson category.
The municipality of Itogon secured second place as Outstanding Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) and was likewise recognized as the Most Supportive Municipal Local Government Unit. Meanwhile, Marlou Daliling placed second as Outstanding MAFC Secretariat Coordinator.
In recognition of these achievements, the provincial government honored the PAFC in a ceremony held at the Benguet Provincial Capitol on April 6, 2026.
The council expressed gratitude to its coordinators and partner local government units, emphasizing their critical role in its success. Domoguen highlighted that coordinators serve as the backbone of the organization, noting that their work is essential in keeping farmers informed and engaged.
Among its key accomplishments, PAFC Benguet successfully advanced resolutions that benefited not only local farmers but also contributed to broader agricultural development. These resolutions, endorsed by the provincial government, resulted in the passage of several ordinances, including measures that institutionalize May as Farmers and Fisherfolks Month, designate a Farmers and Fisherfolks Officials for a Day (FAFOD), and formally establish the PAFC’s structure and functions in the province.
Provincial Agriculturist Delinia Juan credited the strong collaboration between the council and local government officials for the successful enactment of these policies. She noted that such partnerships have strengthened agricultural programs and are expected to support future initiatives for the sector.
The Agriculture and Fishery Council (AFC) operates as a collaborative body involving the Department of Agriculture, local government units, academic institutions, and private stakeholders. It plays a vital role in representing farmers and fisherfolk while contributing to the development and direction of agriculture and fisheries nationwide.
