Agriculture Ministry positive on strengthening ties with India

The Ministry of Agriculture has met with the High Commissioner of India to explore technical cooperation opportunities in the field of advanced agricultural technologies.

Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, Avinash Singh, hosted the High Commissioner of India, Dr Pradeem Singh Rajpurohit, at the Ministry's head office in Chaguanas on Friday.

A media release from the Ministry said during the meeting the creation of data-driven agricultural practices was discussed.

In particular, the topics of climate-smart technology, artificial intelligence-based engagement with rural farmers, and nano-fertilizer technology were discussed.

The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and India.

In particular, the Know India Program (KIP) was spotlighted as having the potential to yield quick-impact projects in Trinidad and Tobago, funded by India.

Minister Singh was accompanied at the meeting by Permanent Secretary, Farook Hosein, and Deputy Permanent Secretary, Nela Dwarika-Ali.

High Commissioner Rajpurohit was joined by the Counselor of the High Commission of India, Raju Sharma.

The Ministry of Agriculture said it was optimistic about the prospects of the partnership and the potential positive impact on this country's agricultural sector and bilateral ties.
