Digital Disaster Reporting System Boosts Agriculture Response in Tandag

TANDAG CITY — The use of digital and data-driven systems is playing an increasingly important role in strengthening disaster response in the agriculture sector, according to Provincial Agriculturist Esmeraldo S. Raymundo.

Speaking during a training session on the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS) in Agriculture, Raymundo emphasized that timely, accurate, and evidence-based reporting is essential in improving disaster preparedness, response, and recovery for farmers and fishers.

The DRRMIS is a web-based platform developed under the Department of Agriculture to digitalize the process of reporting agricultural damages and losses caused by natural disasters. Once fully implemented, the system will serve as a centralized portal for collecting and generating reports, allowing government agencies to validate data faster and deliver assistance more efficiently.

Under the reporting workflow, damage and loss assessment (DALA) reports prepared by municipal and city governments are consolidated by designated encoders who upload verified information into the DRRMIS platform. The provincial local government unit then provides technical support and oversight, while provincial validators review the submissions to ensure the data is accurate and complete before it is finalized at the regional level.

Raymundo highlighted the important role of municipal and city local government units as frontline responders in disaster reporting, noting that the speed and accuracy of their reports directly affect how quickly government assistance reaches affected farmers.

He stressed that the information gathered through the system reflects the real situation faced by farmers on the ground and helps ensure that support is delivered where it is most needed.

The rollout of DRRMIS also supports the national government’s push to build climate-resilient agriculture, protect farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthen food security as climate-related hazards become more frequent.

The initiative aligns with the digital governance and disaster resilience agenda of the administration of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which promotes the use of technology, reliable data, and coordination among government agencies to improve public service delivery.

Officials said that by enhancing institutional capacity and encouraging collaboration among local governments, the DRRMIS is expected to significantly improve disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the agriculture sector.

With real-time and verified data guiding government interventions, authorities aim to prevent delays in assistance, ensure better resource allocation, and strengthen support programs for affected farming communities.
