MANILA – The Philippines and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their commitment to climate resilience, sustainable development, and green finance during the 6th UK–Philippines Climate Change and Environment (CCE) Dialogue.
Held on March 4, the dialogue brought together government officials and climate experts from both countries to discuss key environmental priorities and cooperative initiatives.
Participants explored how the two island nations can strengthen collaboration in climate action, particularly in science-based localization, resilience-building strategies, and opportunities within the blue economy. Discussions also covered nature-based solutions, sustainable growth, biodiversity credits, and ways to mobilize climate finance to support a just and inclusive transition.
During the meeting, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) presented updates on the implementation of the Philippines’ National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which aims to strengthen the country’s long-term climate resilience across communities and key sectors.
CCC Deputy Executive Director Romell Antonio Cuenca emphasized the importance of translating national climate strategies into practical actions at the local level to ensure that communities benefit directly from adaptation programs.
He noted that aligning national priorities with local conditions can help local governments identify climate risks, develop appropriate adaptation strategies, and protect vulnerable sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and coastal ecosystems.
The commission also highlighted its efforts to assist provinces in converting climate risk assessments into local adaptation initiatives and investment-ready projects through partnerships with government agencies, development partners, and local institutions.
United Kingdom Ambassador to the Philippines Sarah Hulton expressed appreciation for the strengthened partnership between the two countries and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing global climate challenges.
The dialogue concluded with the signing of a partnership statement reaffirming the shared commitment of both nations to advance climate action through continued cooperation and coordinated efforts.
