DAVAO CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11) has turned over a PHP6.4 million Kadiwa store and delivery vehicle to the municipality of Carmen in Davao del Norte to strengthen market access for local farmers and producers.
The assistance, provided through the Kadiwa Financial Grant Assistance Program, is expected to benefit 24 farmers’ cooperatives and associations, reaching about 2,926 beneficiaries including vegetable growers, banana producers, livestock raisers, aquaculture operators, and fisherfolk.
In a statement Thursday, DA Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness, Marketing, and Consumer Affairs Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra said the project will help farmers directly sell their products to consumers through a dedicated Kadiwa outlet.
“With a dedicated Kadiwa store and delivery vehicle, farmers in Carmen will have a more accessible venue to market their produce. This reduces reliance on middlemen, lowers transportation costs, and improves farmers’ income opportunities,” Guevarra said.
The facility and vehicle will also support the consolidation, transport, and direct retail of agricultural products, helping reduce post-harvest losses and improve delivery efficiency.
According to the DA, the initiative aims to strengthen local food supply chains while expanding market opportunities for farmers and producers in Davao del Norte.
