A new digital reporting platform is set to strengthen disaster response efforts for the agriculture sector by improving the monitoring and reporting of damages affecting farmers and fishers.
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS) is a web-based platform developed to digitalize the existing reporting process for agricultural damages and losses. Once fully operational, the system will serve as a central portal for collecting data and generating reports, allowing faster validation of information and quicker government response during disasters.
Under the system, Damage and Loss Assessment (DALA) reports prepared by municipal and city offices will be consolidated and uploaded to the DRRMIS platform by designated encoders. Provincial local government units will provide technical support and oversight, while provincial validators will review and approve the submissions to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data before it is finalized at the regional level.
Officials emphasized that municipal and city governments play a crucial role as frontliners in disaster reporting, as the accuracy and timeliness of their reports directly affect the speed of government assistance.
Authorities said accurate reporting ensures that support reaches farmers at the right time, especially after disasters that damage crops, fisheries, and other agricultural resources.
The rollout of the DRRMIS supports the Department of Agriculture’s efforts to strengthen climate-resilient agriculture and protect the livelihoods of farmers and fishers. It also aligns with the national government’s push for digital governance and improved disaster resilience through the use of technology and reliable data.
By improving coordination among national, regional, and local government units, the system is expected to enhance disaster preparedness, response, and recovery in the agriculture sector. Officials said the platform will help ensure that government aid, rehabilitation programs, and resource allocation are guided by verified and timely information.
The initiative also supports the broader goal of building a more resilient and technology-driven agriculture sector capable of responding effectively to disasters while safeguarding food production and rural livelihoods.
