BUTUAN CITY — The Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) reported that more than 92,000 women farmers in the region are now registered under the agency’s Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), according to data released on March 12.
In line with the celebration of Women’s Month, DA-13 highlighted the important role women farmers play in supporting agricultural development and strengthening rural communities in the region.
According to the agency, the 92,726 registered women farmers reflect the growing participation of women in agricultural production, farm management, and community-based farming initiatives.
Many of these women are also members of organized groups and associations that have benefited from government livelihood programs and agricultural support projects.
Provincial data show that Agusan del Sur has the highest number of registered women farmers with 29,562, followed by Surigao del Sur with 22,219, Agusan del Norte with 19,145, Surigao del Norte with 15,830, and Dinagat Islands with 5,970.
Overall, DA-13 reported that 469,892 farmers and fisherfolk in the Caraga Region—both men and women—are currently registered under the RSBSA.
One of the successful women-led groups supported by the agency is the Malipayon ug Maugwagong Mag-uuma sa Mahayahay in Barangay Mahayahay, Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
The group, composed of women farmers registered with RSBSA, received assistance through the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program. The support included 192 ready-to-lay chickens, 110 bags of feed, and prefabricated poultry cages.
In 2025, the group began selling eggs within Siargao Island and generated about PHP550,702 in gross sales.
DA-13 continues to encourage women farmers across the region to register with the RSBSA through their municipal, city, or provincial agriculture offices to gain access to government support programs and agricultural services.
