DPWH Launches Mindanao Campus Job Fair in Davao City, Draws Young Applicants

DAVAO CITY – Students and fresh graduates explored career opportunities in government service and infrastructure development as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) launched its campus job fair at the University of Southeastern Philippines on Friday.

Leading the Mindanao leg of the nationwide initiative at the Obrero campus, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the agency’s need for young, dedicated, and ethical workers to help improve its organizational culture amid longstanding corruption concerns.

Dizon said the agency has been visiting state universities and colleges across the country to attract new graduates, particularly engineers, as part of its effort to bring in fresh talent.

The Davao event marks the fifth stop of the job fair nationwide and the first in Mindanao. According to Dizon, the DPWH is looking to fill more than 2,000 positions.

He noted that over 150 applicants participated in the Davao leg, with most of them holding civil engineering degrees.

Dizon also highlighted the story of a local civil engineering graduate, the son of a public utility vehicle driver, who has been employed by the DPWH since December 2025.

Applicants may apply for plantilla positions, while those who have yet to pass the licensure exam may be hired under contract of service. Once they pass the board exam, they may qualify for permanent roles within the agency.

Meanwhile, Dizon, together with Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., inspected an ongoing road concreting project in Barangay New Casay, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte.

A one-kilometer section of the road has already been completed, reducing travel time from one hour to just 30 minutes and lowering fuel costs for commuters and farmers. Construction continues on other portions of the project.

Dizon said the accelerated infrastructure work aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to fast-track projects that directly benefit farmers and rural communities.
