MANILA – Prices of basic and prime commodities will remain stable until April 30, even as fuel costs continue to rise, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the government has secured the commitment of manufacturers to hold prices, extending the earlier April 16 deadline.
“We are working closely with Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr., conducting market visits and inspections to ensure sufficient food supply and stable prices,” Roque said during the opening of the DTI–Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair at SM Megamall.
She assured the public that prices of goods under the DTI’s suggested retail price (SRP) list will not increase through the end of the month.
The extension follows consultations with manufacturers, retailers, and logistics providers, as the government steps up monitoring amid rising global fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Roque said regular coordination with industry stakeholders is ongoing to protect both consumers and businesses from sudden price spikes.
The trade chief also led a market inspection at a supermarket, noting that some products were even priced below their SRP.
She emphasized that the DTI has been consistently conducting price checks—even prior to the recent global developments—to ensure compliance and prevent overpricing.
“There’s no need to panic. Prices of basic and prime commodities remain stable,” she said.
Roque also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly through trade fairs and expanded market access.
She said the National Food Fair demonstrates the potential of Filipino MSMEs to compete both locally and globally, citing the country’s large domestic market of nearly 115 million consumers.
The trade chief added that exports grew by a record 15.4 percent in 2025 and have continued to expand in early 2026, signaling strong demand for Filipino products.
“There are many opportunities for our local products. We will continue to aggressively support MSMEs,” she said.
