In Calamba City, Governor Sol Aragones has launched the “Laguna Pantry,” a province-wide initiative that provides free fresh vegetables to communities while sourcing directly from local farmers to strengthen food security.
The program operates across four districts in Laguna, purchasing produce for redistribution to residents. It aims to address both consumer needs and farmer welfare amid ongoing economic challenges.
Aragones said the initiative was designed to ensure that assistance reaches both the public and the agricultural sector. By buying directly from farmers, the program helps sustain livelihoods while ensuring a steady supply of fresh food for communities.
The initial phase prioritizes sourcing vegetables from farmers in Nagcarlan, in coordination with Mayor Elmor Vita. As the rollout expands, the provincial government plans to procure produce from farmers in each district to widen support and maintain supply.
Distribution follows a scheduled and phased system to ensure fair and orderly access for beneficiaries.
Officials said the program may be extended to more districts in the coming days, depending on available resources and the volume of harvests from local farmers, reinforcing Laguna’s efforts to enhance food access while supporting its agricultural communities.
