In Laoag City, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte has expanded its “Agri Ka Dito” program by providing fuel subsidies, food packs, and fertilizers to support farmers facing rising costs.
A total of 234 farmers from different areas in the province received fuel assistance, each getting stubs equivalent to 30 liters of fuel through a partnership with a local gas station.
Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos said the initiative aims to help ease the burden of increasing oil prices on the agricultural sector. She emphasized that the provincial government is exploring all possible ways to cushion the impact of fuel price hikes on farmers’ livelihoods.
In addition to fuel aid, the province distributed 120 family food packs and at least 30 bags of inorganic fertilizers to beneficiaries, further supporting farm productivity and household needs.
The governor also appealed for patience as additional fuel assistance from the national government is being processed. She noted that earlier subsidies prioritized the transport sector before extending support to agriculture.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture has announced ₱75 million in fuel assistance for fisherfolk, to be distributed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to more than 15,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
The program is expected to expand further through additional funding under the Presidential Assistance Program for Farmers and Fisherfolk, reinforcing efforts to sustain livelihoods amid rising production costs.
