SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – A total of 3,856 farmers from three municipalities in Antique have begun receiving cash assistance under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk (PAFF) program of the Department of Agriculture.
The beneficiaries include 1,472 farmers from San Jose de Buenavista, 1,064 from Belison, and 1,320 from Anini-y. Each recipient was given PHP2,325 to help address rising farming and household costs.
San Jose de Buenavista Committee on Agriculture Chair Ferdinand Viesca encouraged farmers to prioritize using the funds for agricultural inputs such as fertilizers to boost production in the next cropping season.
“I urge our farmers to make the most of this assistance by investing in their farm needs to improve yields,” Viesca said.
Farmers expressed appreciation for the support, especially amid increasing prices of basic goods. Marian Luz Gallano, a rice farmer from Barangay San Pedro, said the assistance will help cover food and household expenses.
Another beneficiary, Violeta Dalumpines from Barangay Magcalon, shared that the aid comes at a crucial time after their harvest dropped significantly—from 100 sacks to only 62 during the recent cropping season. Now relying on farming with her son after her husband’s passing, she said the financial support is a big help.
The Department of Agriculture aims to distribute aid to a total of 43,943 rice and corn farmers across Antique within the month.
To qualify for the program, beneficiaries must be registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture.
