New Transport Routes in Dinagat to Spur Tourism, Agriculture Growth

BUTUAN CITY – Newly approved public transport routes in Dinagat Islands are expected to enhance mobility and drive growth in key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and fisheries.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has given the green light to the province’s Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), formally received by Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. from LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo “Vigor” Mendoza II on April 20. The plan had been submitted in December 2025.

Governor Demerey said the additional routes would improve connectivity across municipalities, opening more opportunities for trade and travel while supporting local livelihoods.

“These routes will stimulate economic activity, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, and tourism,” he said, noting that several of the routes provide access to the province’s popular beach destinations.

The newly approved routes include San Jose to Cagdianao (20.69 kilometers) with nine PUJ Class 1 units; San Jose to Basilisa (42.36 kilometers) also with nine units; and Libjo to Tubajon to Loreto (29.56 kilometers) with seven units.

The LTFRB has directed the provincial board, or Sangguniang Panlalawigan, to pass an ordinance formally adopting the transport plan. The LPTRP will remain in effect for five years, subject to updates based on the evolving transportation needs of the province.
