LAOAG CITY – More than 1,100 farmers in Laoag City have received indemnity payments from the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (DA-PCIC) to help them recover from agricultural losses.
City Agriculturist Sheila Marie Opelac said a total of 1,121 farmers benefited from the payout, which covers damages caused by typhoons, pest infestations, plant diseases, as well as livestock and fisheries losses recorded in the previous year.
Opelac highlighted that the distribution, conducted in partnership with the DA-PCIC and local government units, comes at a crucial time as farmers continue to face economic challenges. She added that the assistance will help beneficiaries restart their farming activities and rebuild their livelihoods.
Recipients expressed appreciation for the financial support, noting that insurance coverage allowed them to recover part of their losses and prepare for the next planting season.
The PCIC continues to encourage farmers to avail of crop insurance services to safeguard their income and improve resilience against natural disasters and other risks.
According to the City Agriculture Office, some beneficiaries received multiple checks, depending on their claims. The amount granted to each farmer was based on the size of the cultivated land and the growth stage of crops at the time they were damaged.
The Office of the City Agriculturist assisted in processing the claims, with additional indemnity payments expected to be released to other qualified insured farmers.
