Nilo Demerey Jr., chairperson of the Caraga Regional Development Council (RDC-13), has praised the region’s strong economic performance, attributing it to the resilience and dynamism of its people.
His statement followed the report of the Philippine Statistics Authority showing that Caraga’s economy expanded by 5.7 percent last year—making it the second fastest-growing among the country’s 18 regions and surpassing the national average of 4.4 percent.
Demerey highlighted that the Services sector drove the region’s growth, accounting for more than half of its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), while Industry and Agriculture continued to provide crucial support.
“The region’s performance reflects the strength of our people and the balanced contributions of our key sectors,” he said.
Despite the dominance of Services, Demerey emphasized the continued importance of Industry and Agriculture in ensuring sustainable and inclusive development across Caraga.
He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining growth through the i2 FAME development strategy, the flagship program under the 2023–2028 Caraga Regional Development Plan.
The i2 FAME framework focuses on industrialization and innovation, alongside priority sectors such as fisheries, agroforestry, mining, and ecotourism. It aims to boost infrastructure, improve productivity, encourage innovation, and promote inclusive growth across the region.
Demerey further noted that Caraga’s per capita GRDP has risen to PHP129,925, reflecting steady economic progress.
He also extended his appreciation to national agencies, local government units, the private sector, and communities whose collective efforts contributed to the region’s growth.
