DAVAO CITY – The celebration of Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino in Region 11 highlighted the importance of food security while honoring the contributions of farmers and fisherfolk to Filipino cuisine.
According to Marie Ann Constantino, technical director for operations of the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11), the event emphasized how local dishes reflect the hard work and dedication behind every harvest.
From April 24 to 26, DA-11 organized a mall-based food fair carrying the theme “Connected by Taste: The Filipino Food in the Flavors of ASEAN.” The event aimed to promote cultural identity, sustainability, and stronger regional collaboration through food.
Constantino noted that the diverse range of local products showcased during the fair became a strong symbol of regional pride, stressing that these goods represent more than trade commodities—they embody the heritage and efforts of local producers.
Meanwhile, Department of Tourism-Davao (DOT-11) Director Tanya Rabat-Tan recognized farmers, fisherfolk, cooks, and chefs as key contributors to food security. She emphasized their role in preserving culinary traditions while also opening opportunities for growth in the local food industry.
The celebration not only honored Filipino flavors but also reinforced the connection between agriculture, culture, and community development.
