Taiwan Firms Signal Interest in Philippines’ Planned Luzon AI Hub
MANILA – Taiwanese companies are expressing interest in participating in the Philippines’ efforts to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) industrial hub within the Luzon Economic Corridor under the United States-led Pax Silica initiative.
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman James Huang said Taiwan could become an important technology partner for the Philippines, particularly in sovereign AI and AI infrastructure.
“When it comes to sovereign AI and AI infrastructure, Taiwan would be a very, very important partner because we have the most complete and most advanced artificial intelligence supply chain ecosystem,” Huang told reporters on the sidelines of the Taiwan Expo 2026 in Pasay City on Thursday.
“We support almost every country in the world. And we will be happy to work with the Philippines,” he added.
TAITRA is Taiwan’s trade promotion organization, supporting Taiwanese companies and manufacturers in expanding their global presence and strengthening their competitiveness.
The organization is currently leading the Taiwan Expo 2026 in the Philippines, bringing together 125 Taiwanese companies specializing in AI, healthcare, agriculture, and other technology sectors.
The Philippines joined the Pax Silica coalition in April as its 13th member. The initiative has since expanded to more than 30 participating countries.
Potential Investment and Job Opportunities
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) earlier said the Pax Silica initiative could generate between USD 40 billion and USD 70 billion in investments once fully developed.
The planned development is also expected to create opportunities for Filipino engineers, researchers, computer science graduates, and other highly skilled professionals as the country seeks to strengthen its position in the global AI and advanced technology value chain.
The proposed Pax Silica development in New Clark City is projected to generate as many as 190,000 high-quality jobs for Filipinos.
The participation of Taiwanese technology companies could potentially support the development of AI infrastructure, advanced electronics, semiconductor-related capabilities, digital systems, and other components of the emerging technology ecosystem.
